Winter and Spring Break Working School Bus Ready for Children's New Semester Departure... Seoul's Largest Budget and Capacity, Real-Time Information Sharing with Traffic Safety Instructors and SNS Gains High Parent Approval
Seongdong-gu Walking School Bus operates even during vacations, continuously ensuring the safety of children on their way to and from school.
Parents can receive real-time updates on their children's commuting status through the working school bus traffic safety instructor and SNS. The highly popular real-time school commute information sharing will continue this year as well.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) has completed all preparations for the operation of the ‘2022 Walking School Bus’ and will join children in taking strong first steps for the new school term in March.
At the beginning of this year, the district surveyed the demand for traffic safety instructors among prospective new students and 2nd to 3rd graders, publicly recruited 80 traffic safety instructors, and completed online safety training on the 24th.
The training provided an opportunity to learn about children’s behavioral characteristics, such as their tendency to become so absorbed in one thing that they fail to notice other things, and statistical data on months, days of the week, and time periods with high traffic accident rates even within school zones. (Children’s accident rates are notably high in June and July, on Wednesdays, and during afternoon hours.)
In particular, based on the high number of injuries among lower graders such as 2nd and 3rd graders, the training actively focused on key traffic accident types and guidance methods for different situations, emphasizing important points for actual instruction.
This year, the Walking School Bus, which guides a total of 845 students from grades 1 to 3 on their way to and from school at 18 elementary schools in the area, will also continue the ‘SNS real-time commuting information sharing’ that received high praise from parents last year.
In response to residents’ opinions last year, the Walking School Bus will also operate during winter and spring vacations. Going forward, quarterly safety training for traffic instructors and satisfaction surveys in the first and second halves of the year will be conducted to actively reflect user needs and enhance operational completeness.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Since both manpower and budget are the largest in Seoul, we have made great efforts to operate the Walking School Bus project more solidly,” and added, “I ask the traffic safety instructors to pay special attention to safety with a loving heart for children, taking pride in protecting the safety and happiness of our society.”
