[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Foreign media reported that the French military seized a Russian cargo ship heading to Russia in the English Channel on the 26th (local time).

The French Navy reportedly seized the Russian-flagged cargo ship "Balticleader" that was departing from Rouen, France, and heading to Saint Petersburg, Russia. The cargo ship was carrying automobiles.

This is the first time a cargo ship has been seized since the West imposed sanctions on Russia following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Foreign media stated that the cargo ship is presumed to belong to a Russian company sanctioned by the European Union (EU).
