[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] With 11 days remaining until the 20th presidential election, the race between Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, and Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party candidate, continues to be extremely close.


According to a public opinion poll conducted by Chosun Ilbo, TV Chosun, and Kantar Korea on the 23rd and 24th (with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level), Yoon's support rate was 36.5%, while Lee's was 34.9%. The gap between the two candidates' support rates was only 1.6 percentage points. Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party received 8.5%, and Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party was at 3.1%.


Compared to the survey conducted on the 12th and 13th at the same organizations, Yoon's support rate dropped by 2.3 percentage points, whereas Lee's increased by 1.7 percentage points, narrowing the gap.


In the metropolitan area, Lee had been trailing Yoon in the previous survey, but in this survey, Lee overtook Yoon in support. In Seoul, Lee recorded 36.0%, and Yoon 34.6%, while in Incheon and Gyeonggi, Lee had 36.9% and Yoon 32.9%.


Regarding opposition party unification, 37.5% of respondents answered that it is "necessary," while 49.4% said it is "not necessary."


Additionally, when asked about the desired outcome of this presidential election, "regime change to the opposition party" was chosen by 49.4%, and "ruling party’s regime continuation" by 37.9%, a difference of 11.5 percentage points. Concerning the responsibility debate over the Daejang-dong development corruption allegations, 45.0% believed that "Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung is responsible," while 27.2% said "People Power Party candidate Yoon Seok-youl is responsible."
