CU Box Wins Top Award for Competitiveness Among South Korean Software Companies

AI facial recognition specialist CUBox announced on the 24th that it received the President Award of the Korea Software Industry Association at the ‘21st Korea SW Company Competitiveness Awards’ hosted by the Korea Software Industry Association.

Last year, CUBox ranked first globally for the first time in Korea in the world’s most prestigious facial recognition test, NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA) FRVT (Face Recognition Vendor Test), achieving top results in 1:1 KIOSK, 1:N VISA KIOSK, and Paperless Travel categories. This places CUBox on par with global AI companies such as Sensetime and Megvii in algorithm technology.

In the field of facial recognition, anti-spoofing (preventing identity theft using photos, smartphone videos, etc.) is as important as recognition accuracy. CUBox was the first in Korea to obtain ISO/IEC 30107-3 certification for facial anti-spoofing detection technology last year. To date, CUBox remains the only Korean company to have acquired this certification.

Based on experience and technological expertise accumulated in the public sector, including Incheon Airport and the government’s four major comprehensive government buildings, CUBox is now actively entering the private market. In particular, it plans to launch facial recognition services integrated into mobile financial apps in the financial sector, where non-face-to-face operations are rapidly expanding, during the first quarter of this year.

Additionally, earlier this year, CUBox developed an AI facial recognition-based Smart Kiosk, which was recently supplied to the rapidly emerging nature experience restaurants ‘Glin Jeongwon’, ‘Glin Gongwon’, and Korea’s largest indoor zoo ‘Jureong Jureong’. A CUBox official stated that they are actively expanding the supply of AI facial recognition products to various locations around us, broadening the base of the AI facial recognition business.

Nam Woonsung, CEO of CUBox, said the award recognizes CUBox’s software competitiveness, including developing world-class algorithms as an AI facial recognition company. He added that the technology and experience gained from steadily operating facial recognition solutions and system businesses for 10 years will serve as a stepping stone for further growth.

Meanwhile, CUBox is currently undergoing an IPO through a technology special case and aims to be listed on KOSDAQ in the second half of this year.
