Prevention of Livestock Diseases, Quarantine, and Hygiene Management of Livestock Products
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Haman-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is investing a total budget of 2.4 billion KRW this year in projects aimed at preventing disaster-type livestock diseases and producing safe livestock products.
The county plans to carry out more than 30 projects in four major areas: quarantine policy support, establishment of livestock disease prevention systems, operation of livestock quarantine measures, and hygiene management of livestock products.
It has allocated over 1 billion KRW for 13 quarantine policy support projects, including support for 17 types of preventive medicines and antiparasitic drugs, blood sampling costs for 9,100 cattle for tuberculosis and brucellosis testing, quarantine activity support for six public veterinarians, operation of two control posts with disinfection cost support, and a pilot project for livestock disease treatment insurance.
In the field of establishing livestock disease prevention systems, more than 500 million KRW will be invested in 11 projects such as supporting foot-and-mouth disease vaccines and vaccination procedure costs for 22,000 head of cattle in both full-time and small-scale farms, and guidance support for pig consumptive diseases.
For livestock quarantine measures, including disease management in poultry farms, construction of quarantine infrastructure such as CCTV, GPS, and fences, operation of joint prevention teams, and compensation for culling, six projects are expected to receive 800 million KRW.
In the hygiene management of livestock products, about 100 million KRW will be supported for six projects including consulting on livestock product safety management certification standards, support for beef traceability systems, and promotion of livestock product exports. Additionally, the comprehensive livestock quarantine center will operate 24 hours a day to manage the continuous livestock quarantine system.
An official from the county’s animal quarantine department stated, “National disaster-type livestock infectious diseases such as avian influenza (AI), foot-and-mouth disease, and African swine fever (ASF), which occur annually, affect not only farmers but also residents due to rising prices.”
Haman-gun said, “We will establish an advanced blocking quarantine system to create a stable livestock farming foundation,” and added, “We will build a foundation for producing and supplying safe livestock products that consumers can trust to make Haman free from livestock diseases.”
