On the 23rd, the National Geographic Information Institute announced that starting from the 4th of next month, it will officially provide the 'Emergency Spatial Information Service,' which quickly captures disaster sites using satellites, aircraft, drones, etc., during large-scale wildfires and other disasters, and offers high-precision spatial information combined with maps and national land statistical data.
Disaster response agencies nationwide, including central administrative agencies and local governments, can immediately receive emergency spatial information that integrates ▲ videos capturing disaster sites, ▲ digital maps containing terrain and features (buildings, roads, etc.), ▲ past time-series aerial photographs, and ▲ national land statistical information (population, housing, etc.), and can process and utilize this data through the National Land Information Platform.
The National Land Information Platform is an integrated spatial information platform where all spatial data constructed by the Geographic Institute, such as digital maps, aerial photographs, and satellite images, can be searched and downloaded in one place.
Emergency spatial information allows confirmation of disaster and damage situations without directly visiting the disaster site, enabling simulation and prediction of the spread of damage and scientific estimation of various damage scales, thus contributing to effective disaster response and recovery.
The 'Emergency Spatial Information Service' will expand from spring wildfires to floods, typhoons, landslides, and more. This service is planned to be expanded into 'Disaster Management Spatial Information' to be utilized throughout the entire disaster cycle (prevention, preparedness, response, recovery).
Director Sa Gong-ho-sang stated, "To ensure that disaster response agencies can directly verify the necessity of emergency spatial information and the future expanded disaster management spatial information and utilize it in their work, we will promote continuous publicity, collaborate with related organizations, and advance the service."
