[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 18th that it will spend 73.6 billion KRW this year to partially support the purchase costs of 6,059 electric vehicles.
This year's support volume is 60% higher than the previous year. The budget will be supported differentially based on vehicle fuel efficiency, driving distance, and energy efficiency performance. For electric passenger cars, up to 12 million KRW per vehicle will be supported, and for electric cargo vehicles, up to 20 million KRW per vehicle for small-sized models.
According to this year's Ministry of Environment guidelines, the city will prioritize allocating 50% of the total volume to individuals, 30% to corporations and institutions, and 10% to vulnerable groups, families with multiple children, first-time vehicle buyers, and those purchasing after scrapping old diesel vehicles.
In particular, starting this year, 10% of the total electric passenger car support volume will be separately allocated to taxis. When purchasing an electric taxi, the city plans to provide an additional 2 million KRW in support.
Additionally, if individuals in the lower-income bracket purchase electric vehicles, an additional 10% of the national subsidy amount will be provided, and small business owners purchasing electric cargo vehicles will also receive an additional 10% of the national subsidy amount.
Eligibility for purchase support requires individuals or corporations to have continuously resided in Daejeon for at least 90 days prior to the application date. Subsidy applications can be made through the vehicle manufacturer or importer after signing a purchase contract for an electric vehicle.
However, those who have received electric vehicle subsidies within the past two years are excluded from eligibility.
The application period runs until September 12, but may close early if the budget is exhausted. This year, 70% of the total supply volume will be supported in the first half of the year, and 30% in the second half.
Recipients will be determined in order of vehicle delivery and registration, and if the vehicle is not delivered within two months after applying for purchase support, the selection will be canceled.
For more detailed information, please refer to the announcements posted on the city’s website and the Zero Emission Vehicle integrated website, or contact the city hall’s Fine Dust Response Division.
Jeon Jae-hyun, Director of the Environmental Greenery Bureau of the city, said, “We ask for citizens’ active interest and participation in the electric vehicle distribution project.”
