[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Parag Agrawal, CEO of Twitter, is taking several weeks of parental leave just three months after his appointment.

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 16th (local time), Twitter announced that CEO Agrawal and his wife are expecting their second child. Twitter explained that it will not hire an interim CEO during Agrawal's absence but will maintain continuous communication with him.

Agrawal became CEO at the end of November last year when Twitter founder Jack Dorsey stepped down. Agrawal, who is 38 years old this year, joined Twitter in 2011 and became Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 2017.

Twitter currently offers employees up to 20 weeks of parental leave. Twitter emphasized, "We encourage and support employees to use parental leave to create an environment optimized for each individual, and it is entirely up to the individual to choose."

WSJ reported that parental leave policies are quite freely used in Silicon Valley. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, Facebook's parent company and the same age as Agrawal, also took two months of parental leave when his daughter was born.

Twitter also introduced that Agrawal is a key sponsor of the Twitter community '@TwitterParents'.
