Ceremony for Delivering 150 Million Won in First-Year Sponsorship Funds... To Be Used for Improving Educational Environment in Stung Treng Province, Cambodia
International relief and development NGO Plan Korea (CEO Lee Sang-joo) and Eisen Pharma Korea Co., Ltd. (CEO Ko Jung-yong) held a donation ceremony for 150 million KRW in the first year of the Cambodia Education Environment Improvement Project on February 16 at the Plan Korea conference room.
At the agreement ceremony last October, Eisen Pharma Korea Co., Ltd. committed to supporting the education environment improvement project in Stung Treng Province, Cambodia, with a total budget of 800 million KRW over five years. Through this donation ceremony, the first-year project fund for the construction of Eisen School No. 1 was delivered.
Plan Korea will use the donation received from Eisen Pharma Korea Co., Ltd. to carry out a project to improve the educational environment of Samang Elementary School in Samang Village, Talabarivat District, Stung Treng Province, Cambodia, until December 2022.
The Stung Treng area in Cambodia is one of the poorest regions in Cambodia, densely populated by impoverished ethnic minorities. Due to poor economic conditions and socio-economic reasons such as child labor, forced migration, and early marriage, many families find it difficult to continue education.
Samang Elementary School, the target of the first-year project, uses only one building consisting of three classrooms, which is severely insufficient for the number of students. Some enrolled students have to attend classes in temporary classrooms set up in the school kitchen located in a makeshift building.
Through this first-year project, Plan Korea will support the construction of a new school building and child-friendly educational facilities at Samang Elementary School. This includes building one school building with six classrooms, establishing a library, and providing learning equipment and teaching materials. As part of improving the school environment and enhancing safety, the project will create a playground, renovate drinking water and sanitation facilities, create a child-friendly garden, and provide first aid kits to improve the educational environment.
Additionally, the project will proceed with detailed activity plans such as COVID-19 prevention education and health and hygiene management, as well as providing gender-sensitivity education teaching methods for school officials. Plan Korea expects that a total of 540 enrolled and prospective students, teachers, 325 households in the nearby community, and government officials will benefit from the project.
A Plan Korea official stated, “During the total five-year project period, we plan to build one elementary school each in the first to third years, one middle school in the fourth year, one high school in the fifth year, and vocational training facilities annually in the Stung Treng area of Cambodia.” He added, “Through activities such as supporting libraries and drinking water sanitation facilities, vocational training facilities, and raising awareness about child education, we will create a safe and child-friendly educational environment.” Both parties agreed to substitute the groundbreaking ceremony with this donation ceremony, and promised to hold the completion ceremony in December 2022 locally with employee volunteer participation.
Eisen Pharma Korea Co., Ltd., a company specializing in infertility treatment drugs imported and distributed from Europe, stated that to realize one of its three corporate values, ‘Society’s Happiness,’ it will continue to practice and expand such donations and sharing.
