Seoul City to Hire 3,255 Local Public Officials for Grades 7 to 9 This Year


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 16th that it has finalized the number of new hires for local government officials at grades 7 to 9 this year at 3,255.


This year, the new hires include 3,039 through open competitive recruitment and 216 through career competitive recruitment. By job category, there are 2,537 administrative positions, 705 technical positions, and 13 research positions. By grade, there are 303 at grade 7, 19 at grade 8, 2,920 at grade 9, and 13 research officers.


Additionally, Seoul will hire beyond the legally mandated quotas to expand public service employment opportunities for socially disadvantaged groups such as persons with disabilities, low-income individuals, and high school graduates, with 172 persons with disabilities, 279 low-income individuals, and 44 high school graduates to be hired.


Applications for the 2nd open competitive and career competitive recruitment exam for grade 9 (2,895 positions) can be submitted from March 22 to 25 through the Local Government Internet Application Center. The written exam will be held on June 18, the announcement of written exam passers will be on July 20, and the final successful candidates will be announced on September 28. The 3rd open competitive and career competitive recruitment exam for grade 7 (360 positions) is scheduled to be announced in June, with applications accepted in July and the written exam held on October 29. Furthermore, to respond to COVID-19, Seoul announced the 1st recruitment exam last October to select 418 infectious disease response personnel and others, and the hiring process is currently underway. As in previous years, applicants cannot submit duplicate applications for local government official recruitment exams held on the same date. Starting this year, for the grade 9 open competitive exam, specialized subjects by job category have become mandatory, and the elective subjects and adjustment score system have been abolished.
