Police Apply for Arrest Warrant...Warrant Hearing Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 20s who lured men by pretending to be a woman on random chat, drugged them with sleeping pills, sexually assaulted them, and threatened them has been arrested by the police.
Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced on the 14th that they have requested an arrest warrant for Kwon (27) on charges of special robbery and rape under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, filming using a camera, and threats and coercion using filmed materials.
According to the police, on the evening of the 10th around 8 p.m., at a motel in Gwanak-gu, Kwon gave victim A a hangover relief drink mixed with sleeping pills to make him lose consciousness, then committed quasi-rape. He also took nude photos of A and demanded 5 million won in cash, threatening to distribute the photos to A’s family and acquaintances.
Kwon is suspected of deceiving victim A, whom he first met through a random chat application, by pretending to be a woman and drinking together.
The day after the incident, on the 11th, police received a report from A, confirmed Kwon’s appearance through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene, and began tracking his movements. On the afternoon of the 12th, Kwon was arrested near Sadang Station.
During the police investigation, Kwon reportedly stated that he used sleeping pills prescribed for depression and other conditions in the crime.
The police are conducting forensic analysis on Kwon’s mobile phone and will also check whether other drugs were detected in the victim’s body.
Meanwhile, the pretrial detention hearing for Kwon is scheduled to be held at the Seoul Central District Court at 3 p.m. on the 14th.
