Gradual Promotion of Full Scholarships Until Graduation
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Provincial College announced on the 14th that "starting from the 2022 academic year, full tuition scholarships will be provided to freshmen for one year, and gradually, full tuition scholarships will be extended to all students through their second year."
According to the college, this is a proactive measure in response to the sharp decline in the school-age population in local specialized colleges and the outflow of local students due to high school graduates' preference for general 4-year universities.
Accordingly, it was first decided to provide full scholarships to first-year students, and gradually to extend full scholarships until graduation.
The required funds will be covered by reflecting the difference between national scholarships and tuition fees in the provincial government's supplementary budget, and related ordinance amendments are being prepared in the provincial council.
The college has been selected as an innovative university for two consecutive times and has been receiving 2 billion KRW in national funding annually from 2019 to 2024 in two 3-year terms.
Jeon Chan-hwan, President of Gangwon Provincial College, said, "Gangwon Provincial College will do its best to become a place of educational innovation where excellent students in the province can open their dreams and future without worrying about tuition fees while contributing to regional development."
