Don't Be Afraid, Let's Prevent Together... Changnyeong-gun Conducts Early Dementia Screening and Full Survey Again This Year

Namji-eup, Yeongsan and Jangma-myeon Priority Progress, Survey Planned for 4 Areas

Don't Be Afraid, Let's Prevent Together... Changnyeong-gun Conducts Early Dementia Screening and Full Survey Again This Year Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will continue to implement the "Visiting Early Dementia Screening and Comprehensive Survey" as a dementia prevention project this year.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will continue to implement the ‘Visiting Early Dementia Screening and Census Survey’ this year.

They visit residents aged 65 and older to check for cognitive impairments and detect dementia patients early, registering them at the Dementia Safety Center to help prevent dementia and provide specialized management.

The county announced that the registration rate at the Dementia Safety Center increased by more than 14.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 76.7% through last year’s census survey.

They managed 1,732 registered patients, conducted dementia diagnostic tests for 484 people, supported treatment management costs for 1,514 people, provided protective supplies to 371 people, and offered customized case management home visit services to 311 patients.

Currently, the survey is being prioritized in the three southern areas of Namji, Yeongsan, and Jangma towns and townships, with plans to survey four more townships: Gyesong, Docheon, Gilgok, and Bugok.

The census survey team provides services such as one-on-one cognitive screening tests (CIST), customized in-depth counseling and integrated health checks, and quarantine guideline instructions, also serving as a safety net for elderly people in blind spots of care amid the COVID-19 situation.

If dementia is suspected based on the survey results, diagnostic tests and detailed examinations can be conducted at health center-affiliated hospitals, and treatment management and some examination costs are supported for residents with addresses in Changnyeong regardless of income level.

In addition to the census survey, the county is promoting dementia prevention projects such as dementia prevention classes, cognitive rehabilitation program operations, and dementia patient family classes.

County Governor Han Jeong-woo said, “We will tighten the social safety net so that dementia patients, their families, and local residents can live with peace of mind and comfort through early detection and prevention of dementia,” adding, “We will create an environment where it is good to live even with dementia.”
