Will Be Reborn as a Regional Hub for Future Education Spaces
On the 10th, the Gyeongnam Office of Education broke ground on the 'Gyeongnam Green Smart Future School' at Uiryeong High School in Uiryeong County and Yongnam High School in Sacheon City.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 10th, the Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education held a groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Gyeongnam Green Smart Future School’ at Uiryeong High School in Uiryeong-gun.
Attendees included Vice Superintendent Choi Seong-yu, Kim Moon-hee, Director of Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Education, Oh Tae-wan, Mayor of Uiryeong-gun, school officials, and parents.
On the same day, Yongnam High School in Sacheon City also broke ground for the ‘School Unit Space Innovation Green Smart Future School.’
The school unit space innovation project began as a Ministry of Education public contest project in 2019 and was expanded and converted into the Green Smart Future School project starting in 2021.
Uiryeong High School was selected as the nation’s first school for the Ministry of Education’s school unit space innovation project in 2019 and will completely rebuild its teacher’s building.
Students, faculty, parents, and local residents will participate from the pre-planning stage to create a future education space centered on education consumers.
In Gyeongnam, six schools including Uiryeong High School, Yangsan High School, Sacheon Yongnam High School, Hadong Hwage Middle School, Geoje Oepo Elementary School, and Yangsan Hwaje Elementary School were selected as project targets in 2019, and Changwon Seongji Girls’ High School was selected in 2020 and is currently advancing the project.
Uiryeong High School is investing 12.6 billion KRW to build a three-story building above ground with a total area of 4,873㎡, and Yongnam High School is investing 15.1 billion KRW to build a four-story building above ground and one basement floor with a total area of 5,542㎡, scheduled for completion in February next year.
Uiryeong High School and Yongnam High School presented their educational vision and goals through pre-planning in 2020 and began construction after user-participatory design throughout 2021.
The other schools selected for the project will also undergo user-participatory design, break ground this year, and complete construction in 2024.
Uiryeong High School will transform into a regional educational hub future school equipped with flexible spaces for diverse teaching and learning, student interaction, and rest, responding to the 2022 revised curriculum and the implementation of the high school credit system and other future education environments.
Yongnam High School will transform into a future school by utilizing open Building Information Modeling (BIM) construction management technology.
Based on three-dimensional information models, it plans to integrate management of facility planning, design, construction, and maintenance to ensure safe site management and construction.
Vice Superintendent Choi Seong-gyu said, “We will make the school unit space innovation Green Smart Future School a safer and happier space, a space that embraces students’ growth, and a space that embodies the future of the local community.”
