KB Kookmin Bank's Metaverse Experiment... 'Virtual Branch' in Roblox

[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] KB Kookmin Bank announced on the 9th that it has launched a game combining a virtual branch and finance within the metaverse game platform Roblox.

The virtual branch is equipped with features such as linking external information like stock prices, integration with KB Kookmin Bank's KB Video Consultation Service and Mobile Branch, and a service to ask dad for pocket money.

The game aims to educate users about finance. It is structured around a scenario where users purchase real estate and take out loans from the bank for necessary funds. Loans can be obtained at the KB Kookmin Bank virtual branch within Roblox, and failure to repay results in a credit rating downgrade. Users can earn game money or improve their credit rating through activities like treasure hunts.

A KB Kookmin Bank official stated, "This experiment was conducted to identify technical challenges and develop necessary technologies for utilizing the metaverse as a financial channel," adding, "We will continue to explore the potential of the metaverse as a new customer-facing channel."

Since last year, KB Kookmin Bank has been conducting various experiments to secure diverse customer channels, including creating a metaverse testbed organization and testing virtual branches using the video conferencing-based Gather platform and virtual reality (VR) devices.
