34th Heartfelt Promise Pledge
Implementing Customized Military Service Administration for Beneficiaries
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced plans to introduce an 'AI Enlistment Coordinator' to reduce waiting times for those scheduled to enlist and help them apply for enlistment according to their career plans. This is interpreted as part of a strategy targeting 'Itaedam (men in their 20s)' following his pledge to raise soldiers' monthly salaries to 2 million won.
On the 8th, Yoon announced as his 34th pledge in 'Seok-yeol's Heart-throbbing Promise' that he would "implement customized military service administration for those scheduled to enlist."
Yoon stated that he would reduce enlistment waiting times by introducing the 'AI Enlistment Coordinator.' He said, "In the case of most university students, due to academic schedules and re-enrollment issues, even if they want to enlist according to their plans, situations arise where they cannot enlist at their preferred time," adding, "In reality, the total time young people spend waiting to serve in the military, the service period, and the time it takes to adapt after discharge amounts to about 29.9 months."
Through the AI Enlistment Coordinator, he plans to guide applicants on their status and reservation priority, helping them apply for military specialties, enlistment timing, and units that match their majors and aptitudes. He also mentioned plans to hire discharged soldiers by specialty and unit as guides.
To this end, he announced that the Military Manpower Administration would release enlistment plans in units of each military branch's service period (18 to 21 months) and allow enlistment candidates to select their preferred enlistment timing and specialty in advance. He also added plans to expand the number of recruited soldiers and increase the number of enlistees during the preferred enlistment period (first half of the year) to broaden enlistees' choices.
Yoon said, "We will boldly shift from 'government-centered military service administration' to 'demand-centered military service administration,'" and pledged to expand the Military Career Design Centers, currently installed only in Seoul, Daegu, Gwangju, and Daejeon, nationwide. Additionally, he included plans to activate the 'Employment-tailored Specialty Soldiers' program through collaboration among related agencies.
