[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will intensively accept resident proposal projects totaling 50 billion KRW to be reflected in next year's budget until May 6.
On the 8th, Gyeonggi Province announced that the 2023 resident proposal projects will be broadly classified into three types for resident proposals: ▲ 'Provincial Participation Type,' which are projects under provincial jurisdiction or implemented across two or more cities/counties ▲ 'Regional Support Type,' which are projects requiring provincial support to solve regional problems or pioneering pilot projects ▲ 'Public-Private Cooperation Type,' proposed by non-profit private organizations or non-profit corporations located in Gyeonggi Province.
The province plans to reflect the submitted resident proposals in the budget through project deliberation, project concretization, review by the Resident Participation Budget Committee, and online resident voting. Project deliberation is a procedure promoted to ensure that valuable resident proposals are not neglected and are reflected in the budget as much as possible.
Regarding the deliberation process by type, the Provincial Participation Type enhances adoption rates by supplementing resident proposals through expert pre-consultation, public-private budget councils, and roundtable meetings. The Regional Support Type reflects local opinions through reviews by city/county project departments and city/county resident participation budget committees. The Public-Private Cooperation Type concretizes projects through agenda discovery and deliberation via public-private cooperation, realizing practical cooperation effects between the public and private sectors. This year, the Gyeonggi Province Youth Participation Organization will propose policies to solve youth issues within the province.
From this year, the province will also provide mobile gift certificates worth about 10,000 KRW to 100 selected proposers by lottery.
Participation can be done by applying through the Gyeonggi Province Resident Participation Budget website (yesan.gg.go.kr) or by filling out the project application form and sending it via email or postal mail.
Meanwhile, last year, the province received 524 resident participation budget project proposals and included 64 projects worth 16.4 billion KRW, such as 'Installation of Life Safety Logo Projectors (floor lighting)' and 'Distribution of Indoor Air Purifiers for Intercity Buses,' in this year's budget.
