Gwangju Nam-gu to Build Public Parking Lots in 5 Old Downtown Areas

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is pushing forward with the creation of public parking lots in various locations within the district to alleviate parking difficulties in the old downtown residential areas.

On the 7th, Nam-gu announced, "We are promoting a public parking lot construction project in five locations within the old downtown areas of Bangnim 2-dong, Baegun 1-dong, Wolsan 5-dong, Yangnim-dong, and Sajik-dong by investing 15.3 billion KRW. We plan to expand 122 parking spaces by the end of next year at the latest."

First, the Bangnim 2-dong public parking lot will be constructed in an area densely populated with detached houses around the Bangnim 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center. Approximately 1.5 billion KRW will be invested, and demolition work for the parking lot construction is scheduled.

The construction is expected to be completed in the first half of this year, and 13 parking spaces will be provided there.

The Baegun 1-dong public parking lot will be built in an area where detached houses and one-room apartments are clustered. About 1 billion KRW is being invested in the construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of April. It will accommodate 12 vehicles.

The Wolsan 5-dong public parking lot, located near the roadside of Gunbun-ro, will be set up behind the Gwangseongdang Herbal Medicine store building. This area has many shops and houses, and the purchase of houses and relocation of residents for the parking lot construction have already been completed.

The detailed design service is underway, and the plan is to complete the construction by the end of this year after gathering residents' opinions. The project cost is about 2.85 billion KRW, and 24 parking spaces are expected to be provided.

In Sajik-dong, the appraisal for the public parking lot construction was recently completed, and administrative procedures for compensation are in progress.

The parking lot is planned to be built near the Gwangju Senior Protection Center, with an investment of about 4 billion KRW to create 45 parking spaces by the end of next year.

Additionally, the Yangnim-dong public parking lot is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year in the residential area opposite Mudeung Park Mansion, with an investment of about 5.94 billion KRW to expand 28 parking spaces.

A Nam-gu official stated, "We will accelerate the public parking lot construction project to enhance the convenience of residents living in the old downtown area."
