Losing Early Focus and Falling... Medal Challenge in Rotation and More
Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), who was the biggest star of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, failed to defend her title in the women's alpine skiing giant slalom. On the 7th, at the National Alpine Ski Center in Yanqing, China, she did not complete her run in the first run of the women's alpine giant slalom. She lost her balance and fell while turning left early in the course, missing a gate. The final ranking is determined by combining the results of the first and second runs.
Shiffrin said, "I slightly missed the timing to put the edge," adding, "It's not a mistake that happens often, so I'm very disappointed. The race was over before I even properly started." She continued, "Crying is just a waste of energy. I won't cry over this result," and vowed to perform well in the next race. Shiffrin is also competing in slalom, downhill, super-G, and alpine combined events, keeping her chance for a third consecutive Olympic gold medal alive. She won gold medals in slalom at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and in giant slalom at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
