[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry located in Jin-gu, Busan on the 6th and said, "The incompetence of the top leader is an unforgivable sin."
On that day, Lee said, "Looking at companies, the 'success or failure' is determined by the qualities and mindset of the CEO. Not being able to utilize the same opportunities is incompetence as a leader," and emphasized, "Incompetence in the public domain is a sin because it ruins the entire community."
To explain this, Lee also introduced his achievements. He said, "There is something I took away from Busan. It's called Wave Park," and added, "They said they would do it in Busan, but gave up because the project couldn't proceed, so Gyeonggi Province, together with Siheung City, attracted Wave Park to Siheung." Wave Park is the world's largest artificial surfing facility.
He said, "We removed unreasonable regulations and supported land acquisition and permits, so the project that couldn't get permits for 2 years and 6 months in Busan was completed within 2 years after I took office and has already opened," adding, "It's unfortunate for the citizens of Busan, but Gyeonggi Province made good use of the opportunity."
Lee said, "While serving as mayor of Seongnam City, I attracted Hyundai Heavy Industries R&D Center and hotels to idle private land, and in exchange for permitting land use changes, some was returned," and lamented, "There are many things that make everyone happy, but the most regrettable thing in politics is the perception that attracting companies and giving them benefits is either corruption or not." He continued, "The United States also provides huge benefits such as free land provision or corporate tax exemptions," and said, "I see politics as a very bad path that ruins the economy, and in the future, politics will not hinder the economy but will be revitalized."
