The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training announced on the 6th that they have newly selected 40 'K-Digital Basic Competency Training' courses for young and middle-aged job seekers without basic digital knowledge, expanding the total to 113 courses this year.

K-Digital Basic Competency Training is a program that supports young and middle-aged job seekers in developing basic competencies in digital and new technology fields such as data analysis, coding, and metaverse. This year marks its second year.

The Ministry of Employment plans to significantly expand the program by supplying an additional 40 courses from 14 institutions through evaluation, bringing the total to 113 courses from 24 institutions.

They have discovered metaverse courses and diversified the curriculum into areas such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and 3D design, which are becoming increasingly important.

Additionally, many innovative private institutions such as Class101 and The AI Lab are participating, broadening the range of choices for trainees who wish to join the training.

The Ministry is strengthening benefits for young people who complete the training by linking it with extracurricular point systems autonomously operated by universities. Since the second half of last year, they have started consultations with universities, and 45 schools have agreed to participate in the system linkage.

Young and middle-aged job seekers who wish to participate can apply for training courses on the Job Training Portal website.

Ryu Kyung-hee, Director of the Vocational Competency Policy Bureau, said, "Securing basic digital competencies is the top survival strategy for living in the present and future," adding, "K-Digital Basic Competency Training includes various courses that anyone can easily start, so please make active use of them."
