Suwon City to Provide Disaster Relief Funds to 'Artists and Religious Facilities'... Applications Accepted Until the 14th Suwon City Hall

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will provide Suwon-type disaster relief funds to local artists and religious facilities facing increasing economic difficulties due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19.

The disaster relief fund for artists, whose activities have been restricted since COVID-19, is 500,000 KRW per person.

The recipients are artists residing in Suwon City whose household income is at or below 150% of the median income based on the total household members.

For households with 1 member, the standard is 2,917,000 KRW; 4,890,000 KRW for 2 members; 6,290,000 KRW for 3 members; and 7,682,000 KRW for 4 members. This is verified through the health insurance premium payment certificate for all household members as of December 2021.

Applications are accepted from the 3rd to the 14th of this month. Applicants can check the announcement posted on the Suwon City website for the required documents and submit them via email (yoon1234@korea.kr).

Suwon City plans to complete the payment of the artist disaster relief funds by mid-month.

In addition, to support religious facilities that have faced operational difficulties due to strengthened quarantine measures, Suwon-type disaster relief funds of 500,000 KRW per facility will be provided.

This is to encourage voluntary compliance with quarantine guidelines by supporting religious facilities that are in blind spots of government aid despite ongoing operational restrictions.

As of the announcement date, the 28th of last month, 989 facilities operating in Suwon City, including Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Won Buddhism, and other religions, are eligible for support.

However, facilities that have received administrative sanctions for violating COVID-19 quarantine guidelines are excluded from support.

Applications for the religious facility disaster relief funds will also be accepted from the 3rd to the 14th, with payments to be completed within this month.

Applicants can check the announcement on the Suwon City website and submit the application and other required documents via email.

Previously, Suwon City provided disaster relief funds totaling over 670 million KRW to 996 households of artists facing difficulties due to COVID-19 in two rounds in 2020 and 2021. In August last year, disaster relief funds totaling over 350 million KRW were provided to 709 religious facilities to help alleviate operational difficulties.

A Suwon City official said, "We hope this will help the livelihoods of cultural artists who have faced significant restrictions since the spread of COVID-19 and the operation of religious facilities that have actively cooperated with quarantine rules. Through the Suwon-type disaster relief funds, we will actively identify blind spots caused by the spread of infectious diseases and provide targeted support."
