Ukraine President Pushes Back... "High Possibility of Crisis Escalation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has advised its citizens to leave the country immediately due to ongoing concerns over a potential Russian invasion, as safety cannot be guaranteed.
According to major foreign media on the 30th, the U.S. Embassy stated, "With the increasing threat of Russian military action, the security situation in Ukraine is unpredictable and could deteriorate without warning."
It further urged, "U.S. citizens in Ukraine should consider departing immediately by any means possible, including commercial or private transportation."
The embassy listed Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova as possible land routes for departure.
Earlier, on the 26th, the U.S. Embassy also recommended the immediate departure of U.S. citizens in Ukraine. The U.S. Department of State issued a statement on the 23rd ordering the withdrawal of embassy staff families in Ukraine. The United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, and Japan have also withdrawn some diplomats and their families from Ukraine.
However, Ukraine considers these moves to be excessive. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged a halt to the withdrawals, warning that the departure of foreign envoys could escalate the crisis.
Meanwhile, Russia, which forcibly annexed the Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine in 2014, has deployed approximately 130,000 troops near the Ukrainian border since the end of last year.
