B2B Solution Testing This Month
Jiwon Jung, CEO of AlgoCare (center front row), attended 'CES 2022' held last month in Las Vegas, USA, explaining NAS solutions to visitors.
After touching the device, various types of daily essential supplements drop into a cup within 5 seconds. With a diameter of 4 mm, the ultra-small size makes it easy for anyone to consume. Supplements tailored to the user's health condition for the day are provided, and dosage data is recorded, enabling systematic health management. When the supplements inside the device are running low, a notification appears on the smartphone asking the user if they wish to purchase more. One device can be used by family members or office employees together.
Healthcare startup Algocare (CEO Jeong Ji-won) introduced ‘NaaS’ (Nutrition as a Service), a real-time nutrition management solution. Even before its official launch, it was recognized internationally and won the CES Innovation Award twice. CEO Jeong Ji-won attended the CES event held last month in Las Vegas, USA, where she witnessed the growth potential of the healthcare market firsthand. NaaS, developed over two years by experts from various fields including doctors, pharmacists, and developers, attracted significant attention from event attendees.
CEO Jeong graduated from law school and worked as a lawyer for four years before deciding to start a business. Although she was unfamiliar with the healthcare field, she was confident that industries related to human time and energy would become promising. She said, "For busy modern people, the only activities they can do for their health in daily life are exercise and taking supplements," adding, "Especially, the supplement market hasn't changed much in the past 50 years, so I thought innovation was necessary." Since health functional foods are not pharmaceuticals, they are relatively free from stakeholder conflicts and government regulations.
CEO Jeong aimed for an "easy, simple, yet professional and meticulous customized service." Here is how to use NaaS. First, based on the analysis of the user's health checkup and prescription records, the AI doctor on the smartphone app informs the user of what nutrients and how much they should take through a self-assessment. When the user selects their physical condition for the day?such as stress, fatigue, or hangover?on the smartphone app linked to the NaaS device, the appropriate amount of supplements drops down. Algocare has prepared about 10 types of supplements including various vitamins, magnesium, multiminerals, milk thistle, iron, calcium, omega-3, and probiotics. At this time, supplements are customized by excluding ingredients unsuitable for the user, considering family history, diseases, or medications being taken. One NaaS device can be used by up to 30 people, making it highly versatile.
Algocare plans to officially launch NaaS in March after conducting tests with KB Financial Group affiliates this month. CEO Jeong said, "Companies in the US and Japan view employee health management as an investment," adding, "In Korea, the importance of employee health management will grow as part of health management initiatives." With the Ministry of Health and Welfare officially starting the Health-Friendly Company Certification system this year, it is a great opportunity. In the future, Algocare plans to challenge the US market as well. CEO Jeong expressed her ambition, saying, "We will become a global leader with advanced technology and services."
