[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The body of one of the three workers buried at the Sampo Industrial stone quarry in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, a daily laborer in his 20s, has been transported to a hospital.
On the 29th, the fire authorities announced that at around 3:02 PM, they recovered the body of daily worker A (28) and transported it to a hospital. A was reportedly involved in drilling machine operations and was found at the site around 1:44 PM.
The fire authorities are continuing search operations to find the remaining two workers: excavator operator B (55) and drilling machine operator C (52).
At around 10:08 AM that day, three workers were buried when soil collapsed during aggregate extraction work at Sampo Industrial Yangju Quarry in Dohari, Eunhyeon-myeon, Yangju-si.
The accident occurred as soil collapsed while drilling holes downward for aggregate blasting work.
That day, the National Fire Agency held a situation assessment meeting presided over by Commissioner Lee Hong-gyo at the comprehensive situation room and ordered the deployment of extensive metal detectors and additional rescue dogs.
The National Fire Agency is reviewing the deployment of large equipment capable of large-scale soil removal work and has arranged for safety personnel and experts who can provide advisory roles to be stationed on site to prepare for the risk of secondary collapse.
