Snow Forecast in the Capital Region on Lunar New Year, February 1... 24-Hour Emergency Response System Activated

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] With heavy snowfall forecasted in the central region including the Seoul metropolitan area during the Lunar New Year holiday, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will operate a 24-hour Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters emergency response system from the 29th of this month to the 2nd of next month to prepare for sudden heavy snow and other disasters.

In particular, as heavy snow is expected from the night of the 31st until the afternoon of February 1st, the Lunar New Year day, Seoul plans to enter an emergency snow removal duty system five hours before the snowfall forecast in cooperation with autonomous districts and related organizations.

Seoul has replenished materials in snow removal boxes installed in vulnerable sections, conducted operational checks on remote snow removal facilities and equipment, and inspected emergency contact systems to ensure that the response system can be activated immediately upon snowfall.

For rapid initial response, all snow removal equipment will be fully mobilized to prevent any inconvenience to citizens. Han Je-hyun, Director General of Safety, stated, "Since temperatures are also forecasted to drop significantly along with the snow during the Lunar New Year holiday, there may be slippery spots on icy roads or pavements, so we ask everyone to be especially cautious about traffic and pedestrian safety," adding, "We will do our utmost in snow removal operations to ensure no inconvenience to citizens."
