[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] An analysis revealed that more traffic accidents occur on the evening before the Lunar New Year holiday period than during the holiday itself.

According to the analysis of the past five years' nationwide traffic accident data during the Lunar New Year holiday by the Korea Road Traffic Authority and the National Police Agency on the 29th, an average of about 730 accidents occurred on the day before the holiday.

This number is 83% higher than the average daily number of accidents during the holiday period, with accidents on the day before the holiday concentrated between 6 PM and 8 PM, when the homecoming traffic begins.

Meanwhile, the Korea Road Traffic Authority analyzed that during the Lunar New Year holiday period, the increase in family unit travel leads to a higher number of casualties.
