[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Min-jae] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, declared his intention to establish a digital platform government.
On the 28th, Yoon attended the 'Venture and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategy Meeting' held at Nurikum Square in Sangam-dong, Seoul, and said, "If we build a digital platform government and export it worldwide, South Korea can become the standard for platform administration." He added, "The digital platform government is not simply about administrative efficiency but aims for digital democracy that enables two-way communication through public participation, prioritizing the enhancement of happiness."
Yoon asserted that the digital platform government is not merely declarative but fully achievable. He emphasized, "If based on South Korea's outstanding digital technology, accumulated competitiveness, and e-government capabilities, it is entirely feasible and a challenge that must be undertaken."
He urged the government to act more swiftly to achieve this. He said, "We must focus on fostering the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and support the growth of the software industry to fully guarantee the autonomy and creativity of the private sector," adding, "Opportunities must be created to ensure fair market competition, including research and development (R&D) and talent cultivation." He further explained, "I believe a government that properly nurtures ICT industry innovation is a true job-creating government."
Meanwhile, the 'Venture and ICT Strategy Meeting' was attended by No Jun-hyeong, chairman of the ICT Federation, Kang Sam-gwon, chairman of the Innovative Venture Organizations Council, as well as Yoo Ui-dong, chairman of the Policy Committee, and People Power Party lawmakers Kim Young-sik, Lee Young, and Cho Myung-hee.
