Individual and Institutional Net Buying... KOSPI Rises Over 1.5% in the Afternoon


[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The KOSPI is expanding its gains in the afternoon due to net buying by individuals and institutions.


As of 1:51 PM on the 28th, the KOSPI stood at 2655.29, up 1.56% (40.80 points) from the previous trading day. Earlier in the session, the KOSPI dipped below the 2600 mark, showing a decline close to 0.9%, but it soon reversed course and is now increasing its gains.


Looking at investor trends, individuals and institutions purchased stocks worth 316 billion KRW and 143 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners sold stocks worth 486.5 billion KRW alone. By sector, Medical Precision (6.4%), Construction (6.2%), Distribution (4.3%), and Food & Beverage (3.4%) are showing strong performance.


The secondary battery sector, led by LG Energy Solution, continues to show weakness in the afternoon. LG Energy Solution traded down 9.31% at 458,000 KRW, while Samsung SDI (2.86%), SK Innovation (-1.62%), and SK IE Technology (-9.06%) also declined.


Samsung Electronics (2.66%) and SK Hynix (7.05%) are leading the index's rise with significant gains. Institutions bought 98,000 shares and 248,000 shares of the two stocks respectively. Foreigners are also net buyers of SK Hynix, accumulating a total of 407,000 shares.


Additionally, NAVER (2.31%), Samsung Biologics (3.65%), LG Chem (3.44%), Kakao (3.03%), Kia (2.78%), and KB Financial (2.07%) are also on the rise.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is sharply up 2.46% (20.92 points) at 870.95 compared to the previous trading day. The index had fallen more than 1% in the morning but is now showing a steep upward curve in the afternoon. Investor trends show foreigners and institutions bought stocks worth 29 billion KRW and 48.5 billion KRW respectively, while individuals sold stocks worth 77.4 billion KRW alone.


By market capitalization, Celltrion Healthcare (4.5%), EcoPro BM (1.5%), Pearl Abyss (1.5%), Kakao Games (1.07%), HLB (6.89%), Celltrion Pharm (5.05%), and Seegene (2.66%) rose.
