[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Son Seonhee] Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, said on the 28th, "Public institutions have created valuable jobs, including a total of 150,000 new hires over the past five years," adding, "It is absolutely necessary for public institutions to play a leading role in job creation, especially in creating decent jobs preferred by young entrants."
On the same day, Hong presided over a meeting of the Public Institution Management Committee at the Government Complex Seoul and said, "We will hire 26,000 regular employees plus alpha (+α), focusing on public services with increasing demand this year, and provide experiential internships offering job experience at a scale of 22,000 plus alpha (+α)."
Hong Nam-ki identified four major policy directions for public institutions this year: ▲ accelerating management innovation such as enhancing publicness, efficiency, and transparency ▲ job creation ▲ spreading management that values social value ▲ playing a role as an economic pillar through public investment worth 67 trillion won.
At the meeting, conditions for designation and cancellation of public institutions were reviewed to discuss additional designations and cancellations. As of the end of last year, the total number of public institutions was 349, with three newly designated institutions, one institution under designation review, and two institutions subject to cancellation as of this meeting.
Regarding the recently introduced labor director system in public institutions, Hong said, "Since enforcement ordinances or guideline revisions need to be made in the future, we will conduct a comprehensive review of the current progress and discuss measures for the smooth landing of the new system."
