[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi (CEO Najungsun) visited Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) on the morning of the 27th, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, to donate 400 bags of rice (10kg per bag, equivalent value 11.6 million KRW) for neighbors in need.
The donation ceremony was held in the mayor’s reception room on the 5th floor of Dongdaemun-gu Office, attended by Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol and Vice CEO Na Sung-ho.
‘Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi’ is a representative restaurant in the Jjukkumi Alley of Yongsin-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, and has prospered with the love of many people including local residents, even operating a directly managed store in Jegi-dong. Since 2004, it has been steadily donating its profits back to the local community with a heart to give back.
Najungsun, CEO of ‘Najungsun Halmae Jjukkumi,’ famous as the ‘Faceless Angel,’ has secretly donated 200 bags of rice each to Dongdaemun-gu Office or local community centers every New Year. In 2013, her good deed became publicly known when an employee discovered her leaving rice behind.
Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu said, “Despite the difficulties in business due to COVID-19, I deeply thank CEO Najungsun and Vice CEO Na Sung-ho for continuing to donate steadily for neighbors in need. We wish for the speedy recovery of CEO Najungsun, who could not attend due to health reasons. The rice you sent will be delivered promptly to the places where it is most needed so that those in need can celebrate the holiday with smiles.”
Kim Soo-young, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, visited the local traditional market, Sinyeong Market, on the afternoon of the 26th to encourage and support local merchants ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
On this day, Mayor Kim personally purchased goods and said, “I hope many residents visit our warm and heartfelt traditional market to prepare for the holiday economically and also breathe new life into the market.”
Transportation company ING Service (CEO Han Kwang-woo) donated 3 million KRW to Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) on the 26th.
The donated funds will be used to support 15 children suffering from food insecurity within Mapo-gu.
The donation ceremony held at Mapo-gu Office was attended by Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu, CEO Han Kwang-woo of ING Service, Director Lee Jung-mi, Manager Cho Min-jung, and Deputy Manager Lee Ui-ho of ING Service.
Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) held an education session on the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act at 3 p.m. on the 27th in the main auditorium of the district office.
The training aimed to finalize the review of key points regarding the ‘Serious Accidents Punishment Act,’ which takes effect on the 27th, and to reemphasize management and supervision duties.
The ‘Serious Accidents Punishment Act’ stipulates punishment for business managers if they violate safety and health measures while managing workplaces, resulting in casualties.
The lecture was delivered by instructor Seo Bo-gun, currently working at the Industrial Safety Research Institute. A total of 120 people attended the two-hour session, including the district mayor, heads of departments, all department chiefs, team leaders, as well as chairpersons of the Service Corporation and Cultural Foundation, and secretaries-general of the Education Welfare Foundation and Environmental Foundation.
To respond more efficiently and proactively to safety and health management systems, the district newly established the ‘Serious Accident Safety Team’ on the 24th. Additionally, to ensure safety at construction sites before the Lunar New Year, the district is conducting self-inspections on ongoing construction projects with budgets exceeding 100 million KRW and plans to carry out a full safety inspection of construction sites later.
Mayor Oh Seung-rok of Nowon-gu, attending the training, emphasized safety by saying, “Safety is something that can never be overemphasized. I ask everyone to do their best to build a Nowon free from accidents by prioritizing safety above all else.”
