Regarding North Korea's recent consecutive missile launches, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 27th that the South Korean and U.S. chief nuclear envoys shared "deep concerns" through a phone consultation.
No Kyu-duk, Director General for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, and Sung Kim, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, exchanged a common recognition during the phone consultation in the afternoon that it is crucial to prevent further deterioration of the situation. Based on this, they agreed to continue strengthening cooperation with relevant countries under close South Korea-U.S. coordination to facilitate North Korea's return to dialogue.
North Korea has launched missiles six times this year. According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea fired two projectiles presumed to be short-range ballistic missiles toward the northeast over the East Sea from the Hamhung area in South Hamgyong Province at around 8:00 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. on the same day. The flight distance of these two missiles was detected to be approximately 190 km, with an altitude of about 20 km.
