The Bank of Korea conducted its regular personnel appointments for the first half of this year on the 27th, including 78 promotions. With Governor Lee Ju-yeol's retirement approaching at the end of March, the changes were minimized compared to previous years.
In announcing the first half of 2022 personnel appointments, the Bank explained, "Employees recognized for their expertise and capabilities were appointed as heads of some headquarters departments and regional offices."
Hong Won-seok was appointed as the new head of the Digital Innovation Office, while Lim Jong-hyun and Park Cheol-won were assigned as heads of the Asset Management Office and Treasury Bond Office, respectively.
As regional heads, Hong Cheol, former Deputy Director of the Financial Settlement Bureau, was appointed to Mokpo Regional Office; Choi Jae-hyo, former Deputy Director of the Planning Cooperation Bureau, to Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Office; Shin Seung-cheol, former Head of the National Accounts Department at the Economic Statistics Bureau, to Chungbuk Regional Office; Kim Gyu-su, former Compliance Officer at the Human Resources Management Bureau, to Incheon Regional Office; Gong Cheol, previously dispatched to the Korea Institute of Finance, to Gyeonggi Regional Office; Shin Hyun-yeol, previously dispatched to the Korea National Defense University, to Gyeongnam Regional Office; and Bae Yong-ju, previously dispatched to the Financial Supervisory Service, to Ulsan Regional Office.
Nine individuals who demonstrated expertise in their respective fields over a long period were promoted to Grade 1. They include Ma Nam-jin, Head of the Management Strategy Team at the Planning Cooperation Bureau; Kim Je-hyun, Chief Secretary; Lee Min-gyu, Head of the Financial Stability General Team at the Financial Stability Bureau; Park Jong-woo, Head of the Policy General Team at the Monetary Policy Bureau; Kwon Tae-yong, Head of the Market General Team at the Financial Market Bureau; Chae Hee-kwon, Head of the International General Team at the International Bureau; Kim Ki-hoon, Head of the Operations Support Department at the Foreign Exchange Operations Office; Lee Seung-hwan, Head of the International Economics Research Office at the Economic Research Institute; and Jeong Kyung-du, Head of the Audit Planning Team at the Audit Office.
Promotions below Grade 2 were evenly selected from departments such as policy, management, and field operations, recognizing employees' expertise and work performance. Among the 78 promoted, 21 were women, accounting for 26.9%. Since Governor Lee's term is nearing its end, the appointments were made minimally, focusing mainly on some headquarters departments and regional offices.
