Stable Costs for Seol Charye Table Setting

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] It has been revealed that the cost of setting the table for the Lunar New Year holiday is maintaining stability.

According to the price survey of Lunar New Year seasonal products conducted by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) on traditional markets and large supermarkets nationwide on the 28th, the cost of setting the Lunar New Year ancestral rites table was 267,000 won at traditional markets and 356,000 won at large supermarkets. Compared to a year ago, these figures decreased by 0.1% and 4.7%, respectively.

This survey was conducted for the third time following the 11th and 19th. Compared to the first survey results, the cost at traditional markets rose by 3,000 won, while at large supermarkets it fell by 7,500 won. Compared to last week, prices of spinach and doraji increased by more than 5% in traditional markets, while prices of napa cabbage, radish, and frozen pollack decreased in large supermarkets. Prices of rice cakes and beef brisket, the main ingredients of tteokguk, rose as demand increased with the approach of the holiday.

Kim Kwonhyung, head of the Supply Management Department at aT, said, "Despite the global inflation trend caused by COVID-19, the cost of the Lunar New Year ancestral rites table has maintained stability for three consecutive weeks this year," adding, "We will continue to work hard to manage the supply of seasonal products and stabilize prices until the end of the peak season so that all citizens can enjoy a prosperous Lunar New Year."

The results of aT’s first, second, and third price surveys of Lunar New Year seasonal products can be checked on the Agricultural Products Distribution Information website or via smartphone applications.

Additionally, aT is conducting a three-week event called 'Proud of My Homemade Tteokguk' through its blog until the 4th of next month to promote the consumption of agricultural and livestock products. Participants who upload photos of tteokguk made using aT’s provided recipes or their own recipes will be entered into a draw where 20 winners will receive a 20,000 won Onnuri gift certificate.
