[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] SK Gas and E1, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) specialized companies, have surpassed a cumulative support amount of 10 billion KRW for the 'LPG Hope Charging Scholarship Fund' that supports taxi drivers' college student children.
The Korea LPG Association announced on the 27th that it delivered 1 billion KRW in scholarship funds for taxi industry college student children to the Korea Scholarship Foundation Seoul Regional Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, and held an event to celebrate reaching a cumulative donation of 10 billion KRW.
The scholarship funds were prepared from the 'LPG Hope Charging Fund' established by the two companies. Since 2012, the two companies have steadily carried out scholarship support projects for the industry. College student children whose parents have worked in the industry for more than one year receive 2 million KRW per semester for up to one year. The association manages the fund, and the Korea Scholarship Foundation handles tasks such as selecting scholarship recipients to increase efficiency.
On this day, funds for 262 scholarship students this year were delivered, bringing the total cumulative scholarship amount to 10.5 billion KRW, benefiting a total of 2,585 students.
A student selected as a scholarship recipient last year said in a thank-you letter, "After COVID-19, my family's situation became difficult, but receiving the LPG Hope Charging Fund scholarship eased my financial burden and allowed me to focus on my studies," adding, "When I enter society, I will not forget this and will become a person who gives back."
The association was also recognized for its achievements and received a commendation from the Minister of Education. Chairman Iljae Lee of the association said, "I am honored that the cumulative donation amount reached 10 billion KRW as a result of steadily carrying out scholarship projects for the industry for over 10 years," and added, "We will continue to support students so they can concentrate on their studies."
