Suncheon-si, Visits Social Welfare Facilities and Neighbors in Need for Seollal Holiday

Heo Seok, Suncheon Mayor, Encourages Social Welfare Facility Officials and Listens to Their Difficulties

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do conducted visits to social welfare facilities and neighbors in need to convey citizens' warmth during the Lunar New Year holiday.

On the 27th, Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon visited the vocational rehabilitation facility for the disabled, ‘Kkum-eul Kiuneun Sesang’ (World Growing Dreams), and the homeless rehabilitation facility, ‘In-aewon,’ to express gratitude and encouragement to the staff and to listen to difficulties in operating social welfare facilities.

Mayor Heo said, “During this difficult time more than ever due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it is reassuring to have social welfare facility workers who strive for local welfare,” and added, “Suncheon City will do its best not only to carry out welfare projects throughout daily life but also to build a welfare community without discrimination or bias.”

This visit was conducted with minimal face-to-face contact outside the facilities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The city supported 75 social welfare facilities and organizations for the disabled and veterans with daily necessities such as fruit, beef, and dried seaweed during this Lunar New Year holiday, and provided consolation money in the form of gift certificates or cash to 5,070 economically vulnerable households so that beneficiaries could purchase the daily necessities they needed directly.

A Suncheon city official stated, “The consolation money provided to vulnerable groups was prepared by adding neighbor-helping donations to the city’s own budget, representing a good example of mutual aid welfare where neighbors take care of neighbors.”
