[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Kia announced on the 27th that it received the Leadership A grade in the water resource management category from the sustainability management evaluation organization CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), winning the grand prize for two consecutive years. In the climate change response category, it received the Leadership A- grade and was awarded the Carbon Management Sector Honors Award for three consecutive years.

According to the company, it has introduced facilities that help recycle wastewater generated from production processes at domestic sites, gradually increasing water reuse. Measurement results from external organizations show that the discharged water quality is managed within 30% of the legal standards, the company said. Kia is also focusing on energy efficiency, being the first in the automotive industry to establish an energy management system across all business sites.

CDP is a non-profit organization established in the UK in 2000 and is regarded as a credible institution alongside the Dow Jones Sustainability Index among sustainability evaluation organizations. Over 8,400 companies worldwide (as of 2019) participate, with about 100 companies in Korea. It evaluates environmental issues and assigns eight grades.

Hyundai Glovis, another affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, also received the Leadership A grade in the climate change response evaluation in the same assessment. This marks two consecutive years following last year. Additionally, it was selected for the Carbon Management Honors Club for two consecutive years, which includes only the top five companies among the top 200 domestic market capitalization companies. The company stated that it is the only domestic logistics company to belong to both the Leadership A grade and the Honors Club. Hyundai Motor Company received the Leadership A- grade in water resource management, earning an excellence award, and received the Management B grade in the climate change response category.
