[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The government will support facility improvements for 34,000 households using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) containers.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 27th that it will support the replacement of rubber hoses and other improvements for homes using LPG containers through the "2022 LPG Container User Household Facility Improvement Project." This project is a follow-up to the "Low-income Gas Facility Improvement Project," which was carried out for 755,000 households over 10 years from 2011 to 2020. It started last year and will continue for 10 years until 2030. The number of households supported this year is 34,000, about 2.4 times more than last year's 14,000 households.
LPG containers have a relatively higher risk of accidents due to facility aging such as rubber hose corrosion. This is because LPG containers are mainly used in areas not supplied with city gas and by elderly people. Accordingly, the government mandated through the "Liquefied Petroleum Gas Act" last year that rubber hoses installed in LPG-using homes must be replaced with metal pipes by 2030. The government aims to encourage facility improvements for 414,000 households using LPG containers with rubber hoses through the LPG Container User Household Facility Improvement Project.
Households using LPG containers can replace rubber hoses with metal pipes and gas valves with fuse cocks that have overcurrent shut-off functions through this project. Of the 250,000 KRW cost for facility improvements, 80% (200,000 KRW) will be supported by national and local government funds. Users will bear 20%, which is 50,000 KRW. Inquiries and applications can be made through the relevant city, county, or district office or administrative welfare center.
