Lotte Home Shopping Delivers 'Holiday Food Packages' to Underprivileged Groups for Seollal

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Lotte Homeshopping announced on the 27th that it delivered food packages consisting of holiday foods to 200 underprivileged households in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, who are struggling due to COVID-19, ahead of the Lunar New Year.

The delivery ceremony held at Hope Suragan in the annex of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office was attended by officials from Lotte Homeshopping and the Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council. The delivery of the 'food packages,' which included holiday foods such as rice cake soup rice cakes, beef bone broth, glass noodles, yakgwa, and dried persimmons, was conducted in a non-face-to-face manner by hanging them in front of the recipients' doors. Lotte Homeshopping plans to continuously provide side dishes in cooperation with the 'Yeongwon (0-won) Market' operated by the Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council to support economically struggling residents.

This event was part of the 'Hope Suragan' community contribution activities in Yeongdeungpo, where Lotte Homeshopping's headquarters is located. 'Hope Suragan' is a side dish sharing activity that regularly prepares side dishes and delivers them to underprivileged local residents, and it has been conducted monthly since 2015. So far, it has supported 294 sessions and provided over 49,000 side dishes. During Lunar New Year and Chuseok, employees used to prepare and deliver food in person, but since 2020, deliveries have been made in a non-face-to-face manner due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, in addition to the side dish sharing activities in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Lotte Homeshopping has supported vulnerable groups urgently needing infection prevention with 'daily necessities kits' and provided 'learning support packages' to children and adolescents struggling with remote classes since last year. They have also conducted customized sharing activities for underprivileged local communities affected by COVID-19, such as delivering 10,000 masks collected through a mask donation campaign to vulnerable children.

Shin Sung-bin, Head of Marketing at Lotte Homeshopping, said, "We hope this sharing event will provide a small help for the underprivileged in Yeongdeungpo, who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, to have a warm holiday," and added, "We will continue to expand various activities for mutual growth with the local community."
