[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The Housing Cooperative Council, consisting of 70 remodeling promotion complexes in Seoul, has officially launched.

The ‘Seoul Remodeling Housing Cooperative Council,’ composed of 44 remodeling cooperatives and 26 promotion committees in the Seoul area, held its inauguration ceremony on the afternoon of the 26th and began full-scale activities. Seo Jeong-tae, the head of the Jayang Woosung 1st Cooperative, was appointed as the first chairman of the council.

The council stated that its purpose is to create an environment for the smooth progress of remodeling projects and to lead institutional improvements. First, the council plans to establish a framework for standard construction contracts, standard service contracts, and construction cost verification to foster fair relationships among companies, promotion committees, and cooperatives. Additionally, it announced plans to participate in the formulation of remodeling policies with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and to promote remodeling projects through tax law revisions and other measures.

Seo Jeong-tae, chairman of the Remodeling Housing Cooperative Council, said, “Since there are not many cases of remodeling projects, many promotion committees or cooperatives face difficulties due to a lack of information sharing and related policy maintenance among cooperatives. The purpose of forming this council is to lead improvements in these areas so that projects can be promoted quickly and efficiently.”

Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Government attracted attention as its revised ‘2025 Seoul Metropolitan Government Apartment Remodeling Basic Plan,’ prepared at the end of last year, includes public support measures such as project cost support and maintenance fund establishment to revitalize remodeling projects.
