[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, signed a letter of intent for a sister city relationship with Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, China, on the 25th.
The signing ceremony was held via an online video conference, with County Governor Han Jeong-woo and Hanzhong City Mayor, along with officials from both cities, participating.
The county began by introducing a pair of crested ibises in 2008 and signed a letter of intent for friendly exchange with Hanzhong City in November 2009.
After introducing two additional male crested ibises in 2013, in February 2019, the county governor personally visited Hanzhong City to sign a friendly exchange agreement for the restoration of the crested ibis.
The county stated that this letter of intent for a sister city relationship is a preliminary step toward an upgraded form of international exchange beyond friendly exchanges, aiming to strengthen the complementary relationship between the two cities and to promote broad exchange and cooperation projects in culture, tourism, agriculture, and more.
County Governor Han Jeong-woo said, “With the signing of this letter of intent, we have once again confirmed our commitment to expanding exchanges between the two cities,” adding, “We will pursue practical exchanges and cooperation in the near future after the COVID-19 situation.”
