[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don, Trainee Reporter Oh Gyu-min] Ahead of the defamation trial of former Roh Moo-hyun Foundation Chairman Yoo Si-min (63) against Han Dong-hoon, Deputy Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Han has expressed his intention to appear in court and make a statement in person.
Deputy Director Han will appear as a witness at the defamation trial (defamation by radio) of former Chairman Yoo, scheduled for 2 p.m. on the 27th at the Seoul Western District Court, Criminal Division 7, presided over by Chief Judge Ji Sang-mok.
Before the trial, Deputy Director Han is expected to make a statement around 1:30 p.m. Accordingly, a face-to-face meeting is anticipated between former Chairman Yoo, who will appear as the accused at the trial, and Deputy Director Han.
Meanwhile, former Chairman Yoo was indicted on charges of defamation by radio after appearing on the YouTube channel ‘Alileo’ on December 24, 2019, where he stated that “the prosecution looked into the accounts of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation.” Additionally, in interviews conducted on MBC Radio’s ‘Kim Jong-bae’s Focus’ in April and July 2020, he made statements implying that “the Anti-Corruption and Strong Crime Division of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office illegally tracked his and the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation’s accounts.”
In response, the Legal Action for Establishing the Rule of Law Solidarity (Beopse-ryeon) filed a complaint against former Chairman Yoo with the prosecution in August 2020, and the prosecution judged in May last year that there was sufficient evidence to indict him.
