[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun announced on the 26th that it will provide disaster relief funds of 200,000 won each to all residents of the county.
This disaster relief fund is the second payment following January of last year, decided to comfort residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and the spread of the Omicron variant, and to revitalize the stagnant local economy.
Considering the current spread of COVID-19, the disaster relief fund payment is expected to take place after the Lunar New Year holiday, and the total amount will be fully funded by the county government and paid through Haenam Love Gift Certificates to promote the circulation of funds within the region.
The recipients of the basic disaster income are those registered as residents in Haenam-gun, with the reference date to be separately determined. It is expected to be about 68,000 people, and the total payment amount is estimated to reach approximately 13.6 billion won.
The payment method will involve accepting applications for the basic disaster income by visiting the local town and township offices of the registered address. As the Omicron spread is rapidly accelerating in the province, detailed plans regarding application and payment timing will be prepared considering quarantine rules such as social distancing.
To overcome COVID-19, Haenam was the first in Jeonnam in 2020 to support small business owners and others with business stabilization funds, providing 1 million won per business location to all business operators, totaling about 6.3 billion won. In January last year, disaster relief funds of 100,000 won per resident were also provided.
Myunghyeon-gwan, Haenam County Governor, said, “We decided to provide the second disaster relief fund to promote the livelihood stability of our residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 crisis and to support the resumption of daily life,” adding, “We hope this will not only comfort our residents but also invigorate the local economy through the activation of Haenam Love Gift Certificates.”
