[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…Im Sung-jae (24, CJ Logistics, photo) may once again wear the Taegeuk mark at the Asian Games.
The Korea Golf Association (KGA) held its regular general meeting at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul on the 26th and announced, "A mixed team of professionals and amateurs will participate in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games." The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) changed the regulations to allow professionals to participate in the golf event at the Hangzhou Asian Games. The men's team will consist of two professionals and two amateurs, while the women's team will include one professional and two amateurs. The detailed selection method will be decided through the Performance Improvement Committee.
Until now, professional players could participate in the Olympics, but only amateur players were allowed to compete in the Asian Games. Korean golf ended with no medals at last year's Tokyo Olympics. They are determined to restore their honor at the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games in September. The men's team is likely to include world-ranked 24th Im Sung-jae and 54th Kim Si-woo (27, CJ Logistics), who are active on the PGA Tour. Both players now have the possibility of receiving military service benefits.
