[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Kim Jae-won, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, engaged in a sharp exchange with broadcaster Kim Eo-jun regarding the 'shamanism controversy' surrounding the party's presidential candidate Yoon Seok-youl.
On the 26th, Kim appeared on TBS Radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' and addressed allegations that Jeon, known as the 'Geonjin shaman,' served as an advisor to Kobana Contents, a company owned by Yoon's spouse Kim Gun-hee. He said, "(Factory Chief) Kim Eo-jun may try hard to pin 'shamanism' on them, but in the end, it will end up similar to the 'saengtae-tang' incident during the Seoul mayoral by-election."
Previously, during last year's Seoul mayoral by-election, 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' aired the son of the 'Naegok-dong Saengtae-tang restaurant,' raising suspicions that then-candidate Oh Se-hoon received 'self-compensation' for land in Naegok-dong, Seoul.
In response, Kim said, "It is natural to have suspicions about whether the presidential candidate or their spouse is influenced by shamanism due to various accumulated factors." Kim Jae-won countered, "The place producing such stories is right here, Factory Chief." He added, "It's a small company with only two or three employees, a planning agency, so what significance does having an advisor hold? Or what activities could they have done? It doesn't have much meaning."
When Kim Eo-jun pointed out again that Jeon, the 'Geonjin shaman,' received a business card from Kobana Contents, Kim Jae-won responded, "Many people come and go in a campaign. There are even people who set up their own offices and call them campaigns," adding, "Even if it wasn't a business card, what if it was a blood letter?"
Regarding various shamanism allegations linked to Yoon, including the 'king (王) character controversy,' Monk Cheongong, and Monk Mujung, Kim Jae-won said, "They used state agencies like the prosecution to investigate stock manipulation and donation suspicions related to Kim Gun-hee and Kobana Contents, and when that didn't work, they tried to pin it on the mother-in-law as well," adding, "Now that those attempts aren't working, they're trying to blame shamanism, but even that isn't working well."
Kim Jae-won stated, "They even mobilized the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials to make noise about 'report solicitation' against Yoon, but it quieted down. They tried to cover up the spouse with prosecution investigations, but it didn't work. They managed to cover up the mother-in-law well, but eventually, she was acquitted." Kim Eo-jun rebutted, "(Yoon's mother-in-law) was not ultimately acquitted; only the second trial resulted in acquittal."
Kim Jae-won also criticized the ruling party for raising the 'saengtae-tang suspicion' against Oh Se-hoon during the 2021 Seoul mayoral by-election, saying, "For too long, the Democratic Party has engaged in such tactics only during elections. They try to pin 'shamanism' on them, but it doesn't work well." Kim Eo-jun responded, "What do you mean by pinning it on them? It keeps coming out," adding, "I hope it has no effect."
