[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyeyoung] Samsung Electronics will provide incentives equivalent to 300% of the base salary to the Memory Business Division, which led the strong performance including achieving the No. 1 global semiconductor sales.

On the 26th, Kyung Kyehyun, President of Samsung Electronics' DS Division, held a management status briefing for employees and said, "There should be sufficient compensation for achieving the No. 1 global sales in memory semiconductors," and announced that employees in the related divisions would receive incentives up to 300%. The payment date is reported to be the 28th.

Employees belonging to the Memory Business Division will receive 300% of their base salary, while employees in the Semiconductor Research Institute and Global Manufacturing & Infrastructure Headquarters, who supported the memory business, will receive 200% performance bonuses.

However, it is reported that no incentives will be given to the System LSI and Foundry (contract manufacturing) divisions.

According to market research firm Gartner, Samsung Electronics achieved semiconductor sales of $75.95 billion (approximately 90.4868 trillion KRW) last year, surpassing Intel to take the global No. 1 spot. This is the first time in three years since 2018 that Samsung has ranked first in the semiconductor market, with memory semiconductors driving the performance.

Earlier, President Kyung acknowledged in the company broadcast 'WeTalk' held in mid-month that there were employee complaints about special performance bonuses and promised, "We will prepare appropriate compensation measures." Previously, Samsung paid special bonuses equivalent to 200% of the base salary to employees of major affiliates, but it was reported that dissatisfaction was widespread regarding the relatively low incentive levels compared to other companies, especially centered on the memory division, which recorded record-breaking sales.

Meanwhile, separate from this incentive, DS Division employees are expected to receive an additional performance bonus (OPI) equivalent to about 50% of their annual salary at the end of this month.
