KSD "Last Year Bond Settlement Amount 6981 Trillion Won... 13% Increase from Previous Year"

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Korea Securities Depository announced on the 26th that the total bond settlement amount last year reached 6981.1 trillion won, a 13% increase compared to the previous year (6169.2 trillion won). The bond settlement amount has shown a gradual upward trend over the past five years.

The settlement amount in the on-exchange bond market was 638.5 trillion won, up 6.3% from last year (600.9 trillion won). On-exchange bond market settlement refers to the settlement of securities payments between securities companies and banks that are members of the exchange. By market, the settlement amount in the government bond specialized distribution market increased by 8.7% to 496.8 trillion won compared to the previous year, while the on-exchange general bond market decreased by 11.8% to 15.7 trillion won during the same period. The on-exchange Repo market remained similar to last year at 126 trillion won.

The settlement amount for institutional investors in bonds (over-the-counter bond institutional settlement) was 6341.6 trillion won, a 14% increase from last year (5568.3 trillion won). Over-the-counter bond institutional settlement refers to the settlement of securities payments between institutions following trading transactions of government bonds, CP, CD, and short-term bonds in the OTC bond market. By product type, bonds amounted to 3018.7 trillion won, a 2.2% decrease from last year, but CDs and CPs increased by 39.8% to 1996.1 trillion won during the same period. Short-term bonds also rose by 26% to 1326.8 trillion won.

The total bond trading amount was 10,679.5 trillion won, a 2.3% increase compared to the previous year (10,437.1 trillion won). The on-exchange bond market trading amount decreased by 20.9% to 1979.2 trillion won compared to last year, while the trading amount by institutional investors in bonds increased by 9.6% to 8709.3 trillion won during the same period.
