Jeongeup-si 'Book Reading Marathon Competition' Participant Recruitment

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 26th that it will recruit participants for the "6th Book Reading Marathon" starting from the 1st of next month to share the joy of reading books among citizens and create an environment for reading.

The Book Reading Marathon is a reading campaign that combines reading and marathon by converting one page of a book into 2 meters and having participants complete a pre-registered reading course.

This event will be held for eight months from the 1st of next month to September 30th, and participants must be members of the Jeongeup City Library, participating individually or as a family.

The reading courses include a toddler course, walking course (5 km), shortened course (10 km), half course (21 km), and full course (42 km or more). Registration will be available on the Jeongeup City Library website starting from the 1st of next month.

The books eligible include not only those borrowed from the city library but also books personally read, allowing anyone to participate.

To encourage more citizen participation this year, the city plans to offer various benefits such as lifting borrowing suspensions (up to 5 times) and recognizing regular learning hours for public officials.

After the event, all finishers will receive completion certificates and souvenirs for each section, and the number of books that can be borrowed will be increased from the existing 5 to 10.

Additionally, outstanding participants will be awarded the Jeongeup Mayor’s Award and the Jeongeup Office of Education Superintendent’s Award based on the content and sincerity of their book reviews.

A library official said, “We hope many citizens share the joy of reading and that it helps develop reading habits and self-improvement. We will continue to promote various programs to spread reading culture.”
