[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 26th, President Moon Jae-in exchanged letters with Mexican President Andr?s Manuel L?pez Obrador to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mexico, reaffirming the cooperative relationship between the two countries, including the conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Park Kyung-mi, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated in a written briefing that “the two countries celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and reflected on its significance, strengthening the friendship between the heads of state.”
In his letter, President Moon said, “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mexico in 1962, we have steadily developed a friendly and cooperative relationship,” and evaluated that “based on the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2005, cooperation between the two countries has continued to expand.”
President Moon further expressed, “I hope that the two countries will expand future-oriented cooperation on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations,” emphasizing, “I hope that the conclusion of an FTA between the two countries for inclusive economic recovery after COVID-19 and Korea’s accession as an associate member of the Pacific Alliance (PA) will be realized.”
President L?pez Obrador said, “I am pleased to send a congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” and evaluated that “Korea and Mexico have developed a close and friendly relationship in various fields such as politics and economy over the past 60 years.”
He also highlighted the significance of Korea and Mexico deepening their strategic partnership not only bilaterally but also in multilateral cooperation areas.
President L?pez Obrador emphasized, “On this day marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, a new shared history based on friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect will begin,” and added, “We will continue future-oriented cooperation for a better future for the peoples of Korea and Mexico in the face of great challenges of the era.”
