[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Songwon Cultural Foundation, under Dongkuk Steel, announced on the 26th that it provided living support funds totaling 37.5 million KRW to about 150 elderly living alone near its business sites in Incheon, Dangjin, and Busan ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
Songwon Cultural Foundation is a public interest foundation established by Dongkuk Steel in 1996. Dongkuk Steel founded the Songwon Cultural Foundation to give back to the local communities that have continuously trusted and supported the company's growth, and has been carrying out scholarship programs, cultural projects, and regional welfare initiatives.
The "Holiday Living Support Fund Delivery" is part of Songwon Cultural Foundation's regional welfare projects. It has been conducted every Lunar New Year and Chuseok holiday since 2004. Up to this year, a total of 2.1 billion KRW has been delivered to over 8,000 elderly living alone.
In the case of the Incheon business site, where the demand for support is high, an additional 214 bags of 10kg "Love Rice" were provided. For the Busan business site, 40 separate holiday gift sets were additionally delivered. Songwon Cultural Foundation plans to continue the tradition of sharing with the local community.
